Does anyone know how to identify whether or not this 83 FLHT has a 5 speed transmission. Thanks

It is going to be a FLT or an FLH. Not an FLHT
If the transmission looks like it is physically mounted to the engine. (Not just by the inner primary). Then it is five speed. If it is a FLT it is a five speed, FLH four speed.

I am 99% sure all FLTs were five speeds. I think first year was 81, maybe 80.
