Diagnostic codes

With the use of the dash (2010 FDXC) I know I can look up error codes to trouble shoot any problems. But should I routinely check the status of any particular codes as a preventive maintenance even if I don't notice any problems?

When you boot the ECM, look at the check engine light. The light will come ON then OFF and stay off if no historical codes are present. If the light comes ON and stays ON, then there is a current DTC. If the light comes ON, then goes OFF, then comes back ON, then goes OFF once again, it tells you that there is a historical code stored that is not a current code. (corrected itself or problem went away on its own)

You have nothing to loose with performing a WOW test at the speedo every now and then also.
At least you know the ECM thinks nothing is wrong.
