Welcome jerbob65, I recommend picking up a hd service manual for your bike, good reading. Changing the battery is simple just make sure you disconnect the negative terminal first when removing and conect it last when installing.
1. Remove seat.
2. Remove lower fastener (1).
3. Pivot cover (2) outward and lift to disengage slots on
cover from projections on battery tray (3).
4. Unthread and remove battery negative cable from negative
battery terminal (4).
5. Unbolt and remove battery positive cable from positive
(+) battery terminal (5).
6. Remove battery strap (6).
7. Remove battery from tray.
Alternatively, you can also look into installing a wire which allows you to hook up a trickle charger or battery tender.
this system has the big benefit that you do not need to take out the battery out of the bike to charge it. the only thing needed is to route a small charging line (which can be hidden underneat the seat). to the battery and your are good to go.
Choppers instructions might prove usefull for the install
Jerbot65, Chopper & Safehaven got you covered. I bought 2 of the Battery Tender Jr from Eastern Performance Cycle on the net. They offer free shipping to the lower 48 states and at $28 a unit, one can't go wrong (I had to pay extra for shipping cuz I am in Canada) Just something to check out!! Good luck with that eh!!
