emergency flashers

What would cause the emergency flashers to automatically come on during normal riding. Bike runs/rides normal when this happens. Only happens once out of every 10 rides. No correlation with riding style (hard accel/cruising etc), amount of time idling, cruise speeds etc.

Would the discussion you linked about the 2002 bike also apply to the 98 I have? I don't know enough about the evolution of the bikes systems from year to year to know if it would.

Thank you Tank. Still digging around with the multimeter. Will let you all know how it resolves.

Found some chaffed wires inside the bars. Replaced with new wire and so far no reoccurrence.

Glad you found your problem. Did you run the wires inside the bars or was it done when you got the bike?

Previous owner ran the wires in the bars when the bike was new in '98. Don't know if they were nicked during the process of pulling them through the bars or after the fact. I put heat shrink on them this time. Hopefully that will help with any chafing that may occur.
