FXD Speedo

I am trying to replace the Speedo on my 2010 FXD with a 7000 series Dakota Digital. I have not taken anything apart yet and it seems to me that the whole assembly is part of the handlebar mount. Can anyone comment on this and or provide a solution for mounting the handlebars if installing an aftermarket handlebar mounted speedo?

I would try and look at the book for your bike to get a idea.
