Is this a good deal?

I just looked at a 2007 Street Bob. The bike has just over 7k. Extended warranty till 2013 garage kept. well maintained. Some Chrome, sundowner seat, detachable luggage rack, detachable windshield and Factory Alarm all for 9,000?

The other question I have is do the keys have to be in the ignition to start the bike? I mean with the ignition by the front forks and all? This would be my first Harley. Thanks in advance

Hi Ploco, the bike as far as I know operates with a key less ignition system, you do get a key with which you can lock the system but you don't need the key in the bike to ride it once you've disarmed it. The key also can be used for the fork lock. Do'nt know much about the second hand value of the bike but I'm sure someone here can help you with that.

First fundemental question:

Is this the bike that you WANT, not the bike you can get?

Next, check it over carefully. Ideally, get one of your friends that knows bikes to look at it with you. You may get the extended warranty, but that is really only good for the BIG things that might go wrong (read the fine print to make sure there are not significant exclusions).

Check the tires. Getting those done for you will run anywhere from 250-400 EACH (tire, mounting, balance, etc.) although you might get some better pricing doing both at the same time with a tire special.

Find out about ALL the mods that have been done to the bike.

If this bike is the type of bike you want, the color YOU want, and everything checks out, then go for it. The price seems very good. If you are happy with it, go for it and welcome to the club!!

TQ

Ploco.....as TQ suggested, do your homework and make sure it is really what you want. As with any good deal, you may have to do your homework quickly because if it is that good of a deal, it will get scooped up quickly but it would be much more hassle to buy it and realize its not what you wanted and have to resell it.

If you have the time, a few pictures for the masses will also help us formulate opinions on whether its a good deal or not.... :newsmile106:

Sportsters/Dynas/Vrods with factory alarm/immobiliser require key in the ignition to start and run but use the hands free to disarm the alarm, you must have the fob in a pocket or attached to the key in the ignition.

Softails/Tourers with factory alarm/immobiliser use hands free to disarm the bike and no key to start but need the key to unlock the ignition lock/steering lock if set both key and fob can be in a pocket

all bikes can be started without fob and key using the personal pin as described in the manuals

Hobbit, my Fat Bob operates like your description of the Softails/Tourers.

In our area about $8800 is trade in value for the bike. So.......the price looks good. IMO the market in general for bikes has been soft and is getting softer. Don't expect to be able to sell if for a profit and that is why I would lean towards taking advantage of what seems to be a good deal IF it's the bike you want.

I have to have the key in my street bob,the ignition key has to be in the IGN position?
Does the fat bob have a IGN in the neck on the right side ?

Ok the Fat Bob is a combination of the 2 :D it has the steering lock like the Dyna's in the neck and has the Softail starting system as it has the starter switch on the tank console.
So for those like M'one who have the fat bob you can run in the same way as the tourers and softtails cheers M'one

No problem Hobbit, I find it strange that you need the key in the ignition to run the Street Bob, I thought the system in the Fat Bob was standard across the range and I stand corrected. Apologies if I misled anyone it was'nt intentional.
