Maybe start with a seat change? I've always preferred Mustang seats, a little wider and lower than stock seats. Very comfortable, especially with the drivers backrest set-up they offer.
I lowered my 2008 Fat Boy, front and rear, and I like it. Not only because I've short legs, but the lower center of gravity is great.
But beware, my footboards, bolts on the frame, tang for the kickstand spring, and the primary cover scraped as I laid low through turns and curves.
Lower the seat height only.If You lower the suspension You will scrape over speed bumps and corners. Also, hard to back to curb without hitting exhaust.Lots of places will modify the seat for You.I lowered My 08 RK 1 inch and learned the "hard way".You can transfer Your modified seat from bike to bike as You upgrade.
Lowered Harleys look cool but with only 4" of travel and 1" given away in loaded "sag", back issues or no, I am not giving up any travel for the cooler look. Additionally, these bikes handle better at stock ride height, particularly at speed in high speed long sweepers.
I know a vertically challenged guy that added a lower seat and 2 inch souls, still fell over at the side of the road do to the distance between ground and tip toe, with his wife on the back, it was funny.
We all stopped, he was behind me with a I have a new bike grin in my mirror, I put my kick stand down, looked into my mirror and they were already on the ground, Like Arty from Laugh-in, neither got hurt.
Are you lowering it to look cool or because your vertically challenged?
If you just want to get your legs closer to the ground there are seat options.
