rear shock help

I have an 82 XLH1000 and it rides great with just me but when me and her and our bag get on for a weekend ride we bottom the shocks when we hit small bumps does anyone know of an air shock or a little longer throw shock I could use to carry the load Thanks for any help you guys can give me hey also my tach has started to bounce a little it is elect tach any ideas why

Is the preload cranked to the max on the shocks? Glider just posted several pictures of the shock adjustment tools in the self help forum. Or you could look thurough the last 24 hrs. of posts.
 
2+ for the Progressive shocks...estimate 2+ rider weight plus gear...don't forget talk to technical support for recommendation and to increase spring rate in forks while your at it. Is the ride height comfortable for you or do you want to raise or lower height (usually 2 up, the suspension sacks, so is the length should be right for solo riding, even adding an inch to improve ground clearance). By the way, find out what is dragging, sometimes you can do a simple mod to improve things at no cost. I took 1/8" off rubber bumper so jiffy stand tucks a bit more, and rearranged hardware on the pipes so they would not drag.
