smoother ride

hey guys i find that my softail is quite stiff
i was wondering how hard is it to adjust the shocks,do i need a special tool?
how can i make smoother?
is there better chocks out there?
any sujestions on how to make it more comfortable

They are adjustable.Below is a description of the method.

Softail Shock Adjustment

Raise the bike with the bike lift so that the rear wheel is off the ground. Locate the shock adjuster plate on the rear end of the shocks.

Turn the adjuster lock nut counterclockwise two or three turns with a wrench. Engage the spanner wrench with the notches in the adjuster plate. Turn the plate, in full turn increments, clockwise to soften the ride and counterclockwise to stiffen it.

Tighten the lock nuts firmly onto the adjuster plate.
