having written what i did i started to look for wear in the cam plate artisles and found this. it clears things up IMO and with the exception of the writer not replacing the inner bearings i think it's spot on

Hi! I did the upgrade with the HD parts. Also was on my 2000 Roadking. There were two HD kits. One was intended for the bikes with bearings on the cams and one for the cams without bearings. I just ordered the correct one (cams with bearings and yes it was the screaming eagle Orange one) and all worked just fine. It's been about 12000 miles or so since it was done so will probably open it up and have a look next winter? My son is riding that bike now but still runs awesome. Hope that helps.
