2003 883 oil leak/ seepage between barrel and head

Before pulling the head off, I would pull the pipe and check in the exhaust port first. It would have to come off anyhow.

Perfect time for the 1200 cc upgrade kit.

First I am going to attempt to apply loctite to the bolts and re-torque the heads.

If the fix requires head removal I will have a valve job done and go with the 1200 bore conversion. Just to make sure everything is fresh, of course.:54:

I found a big bore conversion on EBay for $340 and it even has the black jugs I really like. What do you guys think?

Have to agree with Hobbit here. Use a local you know you can trust and if there is a problem , he can work with you on it.

The leak is much lower than the rocker boxes, please view the attached pic. The engine has not been cleaned for a long while.

I will get a set of rocker box gaskets and retorque the front head bolts. Hopefully it will not be too much of a PITA to remove the front box.

Thanks for the advice on the service manual. I found a bunch of factory CD’s on EBay.

Don't wast your time retorqueing the head, even if it stops leaking it will restart!
Bad head gasket. Replace with Cometic gasket kit E9760 , for 883 or C9763 , for 1200
