2009 FLHX 6speed question

Yup, I've been using the Spectro 6-speed tranny oil for a number of years.

Pulled a bone-head manuver yesterday.
Changing all three fluid and when I was adding the Spectro 6-speed oil ($20 a bottle), the funnel slipped out of my hands and the bottle flew everywhere. Oil everywhere!

Had to drain the new fluid out as it take one qt. and didn't want to overfill.
Busy cleaning all the places the oil flew. What a mess!
Added new bottle of Spectro....
Oh no! Forgot to put the drain plug in and all the new fluid was being caught by my new Harley drain pan. Nuts!

Finally got the mess cleaned up and the drain plug in.
Added another qt.
Lucky thing I had 4 qts. of Spectro 6-speed oil in the garage.
Basically cost me $60 in Spectro 6-speed oil for my tranny oil change!
Not to mention the engine oil w/filter and primary fluid.
It was a tiring day!

Time to stock up again.

I just dumped me gear fluid (Red Line Heavy Shock Proof) in my 09 Ultra.
I did not find one little piece of metal on my magnetic plug.
The same thing happened with the Spectro 6 speed.
Both are a good choice.
I put the Spectro in this time around only because I have a local dealer that sells it and the Red Line is a pain to get here.
Spectro also has a heavy duty primary oil and a good 20W50 too.

ya i checked it, its fine, iam guna change it

60- 2 or 3 mph is the lower mph for the 6 speed. but its ok with the cruse on even with the S&S 510 gear cam in my '09 t/g on the 4-lane ,I.I USE RED LINE SHOCK PROOH GEAR OIL IN MINE.
IMO

DON'T WORRY about ME............:bigsmiley19:

:bigsmiley18:I have WAYS to recover.....

I WOULD like the "op" to try the spectro and after 3/5 thousand miles then drain and Put in a Quart of "Redline ShockProof Heavy" and HE will see and HEAR the DIFFERENCE this product makes.:devil

signed....BUBBIE

I agree with Bubbie, and I'll add... try them all!

As of this morning I'm due for the 15,000 mile service. I'll be eager to see what, if anything is on the transmission plug magnet.

Finally did the 15K Service. After 5000 miles or so with Spectrol in the Transmission I did find small hints of metal shavings on the drain plug magnet. Could be leftovers from prior change, maybe I didn't clean the plug very well last time, could be that Bubbie is absolutely right and Redline is a better product. I don't know. I'm out of Spectrol so maybe I'll try Redline again. I'm sure any of the aftermarket products are better than what came with the bike.

Cheers!
