Actually from what I have read & seen, it is not too bad a job to check. You can do it from the oil pump side of the crank leaving almost everything intact. I have not checked mine, but if I started feeling vibration I would. There is a video on U-tube (I think) where there is a guy showing excessive runout using a dial indicator at the oil pump. There are also some Great video's at Performance Revolution's website where Brian goes into Great detail about it.
Checking for runout with the crank in the engine is a MUST. You can Not use a truing stand with 2 live centers to check the crank, even if you have it out of the engine! You Must support the crank from the bearing surfaces...
