I do have the service manual and will try to read the trouble codes directly from the bike instead of the FP3 app and see what that tells me.

    Below is a list of comprehensive list of diagnostic codes that you may come across on your Harley-Davidson.
    How to Read Error Codes
    1. With the ignition in the off position, press and hold the trip meter button, and turn the ginition swith to the on position.
    2. Release the button. Your speedo indicators should illuminate and the needle should do a full sweep.
    3. “diag” will appear on the odometer screen. Press the trip button once.
    4. “PSSPt” is now displayed. Each of the letters represents a different area.
      • P = ECM / ICM (Engine / Ignition Control Module)

      • S = TSM / TSSM (Turn Signal / Turn Signal Security Module)

      • SP = Speedometer

      • t = Tachometer
    5. You can highlight each area by pressing the button. Once the area you wish to select is highlighted, press and hold the button for 5 seconds.
    6. If there are any codes, you will be able to go through them one at a time by pressing the button. Once you have them recorded, they can be cleared by holding the button for more than 5 seconds. Once “clear” is on the screen, press the button once more.
    7. To exit the Diagnostic Mode, turn the ignition switch off.

Thanks to all! I should be able to spend some time diagnosing the issue this weekend. I should have plenty of time to work on it in the garage as we are getting our first nor'easter of the year this week.I'll let everyone know the outcome.
 
Well, I think I figured it out and learned a few things along the way. I found out that the FP3 codes are the same as those displayed by the bike diagnostics. Thanks for the “how to” post and trouble codes. I also learned that the service manual I have does not cover electrical system diagnostics but I can buy one for 140 bucks. The break thru came when I tapped the trouble code for a CAN BUS fault in the FP3 app maintenance screen and a helpful hint popped up that said this trouble code is usually caused by a short or loss of contact and often follows the addition of accessories and the reassembly of the bike resulting in pinched or damaged wires. I installed new speakers a few months ago and pinched the wire harness from the left side hand control inadvertently when I reassembled the nacelle. After taking it apart and finding the issue, I rerouted the wires once I made sure there were no breaks in them then carefully reassembled everything. No more check engine lights or trouble codes. Thanks again!
