Absolutely its not. I have a couple instances of going thru loose gravel in a turn. Once trying something last second to try and avoid it...which actually made me wipe out. And once where I kept my cool, decided on a smooth course of action (or in my case, controlled inaction) and stuck to it.

And not all 90 deg turns are created alike. It's the radius of the turn that will determine what speed it will carry.

Just don't downshift in the turn!!!!!
Locking up your rear tire could prove physically and fiscally painful.
