taken out spark plug and verified spark? timing issue? You havenet done anything to it recently? quite a strange problem if coil checks out good .

good point glider , does sound like a hanging valve... any top end noise recently before this problem started ?

No top end noise before. it does have spark unless that rear cylinder is out, then no spark. Should I get the coil retested?

I would say yes. Look on the coil for anything that looks like a crack which could be a carbon tracking at work.
