Not to hijack this thread, but I use a tender called an optimate 4. It charges, tests, de-sulphates and "restores" batteries. I use it on all my bikes and it works great.

The optimate series of maintenance chargers seem to be the proffered option on this side of the pond although i only have the optimate 3 i have 1 in each shed secured to the rafters so that the charging cable can be dropped down to the bikes when needed great product and keeps my batteries alive during our long winters

My 2006 RK never gave me a lick of problems with the battery. When I put her away for the winter, I would always put it on a tender, some off brand I got who knows where, but she would fire right up for the next season. Admittedly I didn't have a bunch, any, power hungry components but never used one during the season. I think the modern machines have rather good charging systems IMHO. :majesty My new Ultra may teach me otherwise, but I'll have to wait and see. HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!:cheers
