Bike Cover

I always cover the bike at night when I travel. You can put it in the cover bag and velcro it into you lowers of any spot. It keeps the dew off at night and it can same a mess if you have a pine tree next door and a turkey vulture that is nesting about were you parked the bike. It can be real gross what comes out their back end.

If going on a long tour and know there is no cover for your bike, I would take one. It would not have the HD Big Eagle logo on it, just do not want to attract that kind of attention. Plain Silverrized or Black is fine, and while it is true that wind flapping can damage things I don't park out in seriously bad weather I travel, especially in a sand/dust storm not for any bike to endure.

I usually don't cover my bike at night while on a trip. However, I took a half-cover with me to Sturgis last year because I expected it to rain at night at least a few times during the 4,000 mile trip. It came in handy with the heavy rain that fell at the edge of the big hail storm that hit Sturgis.

I have been considering a cheap cover myself...when I ride to work it sits in the hot georgia sun for 6-8 hours at a time and I feel that covering it would prolong the life of the rubber/leather/paint....more for shade than anything else. Where can I get a cheap cover with alastic on the bottom?

I usually cover the bike at night when traveling. More to protect from tree and bird droppings than rain.

I have a Dowco cover that was not very expensive and is 10 years old and still in good shape. It fits in one saddle bag with a can of Pledge and some microfiber towels because you should never cover a dirty bike.

Always clean the bike before covering it, if it's really dirty and you aren't able to clean it it's better to let it get wet.

We used a lightweight cover last April when up in the Smokey mountains. there was no place to park the bike under shelter by the cabin. It did a good job of keeping dew, pollen, and bird poop off the bike.
I would not cover the bike while trailering, it will beat up your paint.

I figured you were talking about traveling and not trailering. I travel two up for upto a month at a time. We always pack the cover and put it on every night. I also try and knock off the bugs every night. Cover keeps the kids from messing with the bike and strangers don't sit on it. We were out with another couple and came out of the hotel in the morning to find a twelve year old kid sitting on his bike with his shoes up on the tank. He bolted but still. Anyway, I vote yes, take a cover. There are some out there that pack down very small. Even a half cover will keep somone off the seat and hide things. Look At JP cycles. They have a good selection .
