First of all, congratulations on the new ride. Like you, I am kind of a newbie. Rode a Sporty last year and traded up to a Street Glide this year. Never had a problem braking or controlling the bike but it is a pretty light bike compared to any bagger. My Street Glide by comparison is huge, and it has ABS. I hope I never need them but it's comforting to know they're there when I need them. Ride safe!
