The oil filter is situated on the front of the engine it is a spin on spin off full flow oil filter incorporating a by pass valve just the same sort of thing you would find in a car it may be black or could be chrome access is from the left side of the bike between the front of the engine and the front down tube of the frame
for oil suggestions do a search of the forum oil has been coved so many times you will end up confused but most go for a good quality full syn motorcycle oil

They can be a bit of a pest to get off as they seem to get very tight i use a 3 leg filter wrench that sits over the end of the filter it has a 1/2" square drive on it so i use a short extension and ratchet the more force i put on it the tighter it grips the filter
You will also find that the oil will drip over the front of the engine when you unscrew the filter
