I remember Sunoco at 103 octane from the normal pumps. I wouldn't run the race fuel if you want a long life out of the engine.:s

All I can find is 91 oc, but tore down top end and found drops of water on top of piston from the E10 fuel, the stuff is JUNK:wall:small3d023:

I have never burned anything except gasoline from the local Murphy's station. I use them because they are easy to find (usually in the parking lot of the local Walmart). I never use anything except the 87 blend. I have yet to experience any pinging whatsover, even in 100 degree weather. The ECM will correct a little it the need be. Unless my brother-in-law owned the station, I have seen no reason to pay another 20-35 cents per gallon for higher octane than what the engine requires. Usually I see Murphy tanker trucks dumping fuel there but if they can't keep up with it you will see name brand tankers dumping fuel too. I like to buy fuel somewhere that sell a lot of it because the likelyhood of getting bad guess is almost nil. The fact that it is usually the lowest price doesn't hurt anything either. I am not one who subscribes to the notion that the more you pay, the better the results.

Sticking to 91 or 93 from now on.

I tried running a tank full of 87 through my recently acquired '89 FLTC (because the down pipe told me 87 or higher is fine), and my goodness was that a mistake. There was popping and sputtering everywhere. Started filling back up with 93, and back to running well.

"Less than 10% ethanol", because it's the only thing available around here.

Use 89 Octane when riding solo, if riding two up 91 Octane...no pinging in either case, but on my Katana could easily tell the difference in performance...

I always go for the highest octane I can find and try to avoid older stations and if I see a fuel truck filling the tanks I keep driving, have found in past when they fill the tanks it stirs up the stuff on the bottom of the tank.
