grease fittings

Started greasing my bike steering neck today and got about half of a small tube of grease in before it got dark. Question: Do the neck cavity have to be completely packed full and why? Will finish tomorrow if the weather permits. 69 degrees today and raining.

When I did my 2008 EG for the first time I also used the small tubes and used 2.50 tubes then grease started coming out of neck. Soooo keep adding grease for you are actually filling the whole cavity....

There's no way to push the old grease out of the bearings without filling the neck first. It takes quite a bit of grease to get it full the first time because the bearings are only hand packed when they are installed at the factory and the neck is empty.
