First step in DIY'ing is to get the Factory Service Manual for your bike model and year. That will answer a lot of your questions as you get involved deeper in the bike.

I do have the old orange covered AMF shop manual but as Im discovering it leaves a little to be desired. I think I'll get a Clymers or a Haynes.

Not sure you won't be disappointed in them too. At least in the more recent model years, the HD manuals are better, IMHO. But it is true that the older HD manuals are not as thorough as the more current HD manuals. I have a '91 Dyna, and the manual for it is pretty basic and doesn't cover everything I look for!!

So if you run up against anything that is not covered, or not covered well enough in the manual, post those here. Should be someone to help out!!
