I'm not understanding something. My '68 distributor is just as shown in the link. It is much like a car. It has a bolt/clamp that holds it in place. The dist. moves back and forth, and can be removed by lifting it out. The only "auto advance" I know of is the mechanical bob weights beneath the points, and to correctly set timing, there's a procedure to manually lock the plate in advance position. I only really know about my '68, and I haven't adjusted it in a decade or so. Quite possible I forgot something since then .... what were we discussing? :swoon
