I was just wondering how many 06 dyna owners had the dreaded alt stator pulley failures. This list should be long. Mine failed twice, one exploded and one stator failed all in a one weeks time. I know there are other post like this i just wanted to know How many?

Rich,
From looking at the parts you mailed me, I would say every one that is assembled with screws (magnet rotor to hub) has the potential of getting damaged.

It really gives me a terrible feeling to see so much damage caused by some screws coming loose. In my eyes it is Not poor design. The 8 screws have more than enough capacity to hold everything together. It is just that the screws come loose. There are so many ways to correct this problem from happening, if you catch it Before she lets go.

There was no "Heads up" noise before she really let go?

Hoop!

no heads up at all i felt a rubb while driving intermittly a block but i had other issues at the same time fuel tank fuel lines chaff holes results in poor idle that morning then drove it for about a block then turned around back home then dealer she went. i could not believe the damage i gues the crest of the stator hit the magnets. but what does the compesator do? vibration damping?

It provides a "non Direct" coupling between the Crankshaft and primary chain gear.
Something that will "give" a little bit instead of having a positive direct drive.

Hello, This topic hits home because I have an 06 Wide Glide but I would still like to see a percentage number. If ten guys on this site have a problem then thats still 100,000 to one odds, I'm guessing of course. Like I said before I hate to think I have to freak out and run down to my HD Dealer and beg for mercy. This is my fifth HD and I have had no trouble with any of them, not saying this couldn't be the lemon of the bunch. I talked to my local service guy and he said he has had no influx of 06's with this problem. Matter of fact, he said the last one he had with a problem of this nature was a few years ago. I'm glad I am aware of this problem but I don't know how I am going to react, a part of me just wants to go against the alarmist reaction and see. Kinda like my Sister telling me to stock up on food incase of an emergency, not gonna do it..........Thanks

If I had an '06 and thought I had the 8 screw rotor hub, I would pull off the primary cover & fix those screws before it grenades. Like Rich said. Very little to no warning. It is a terrible waste of good parts if those screws start to loosen.
$50 worth of PM (doing it yourself) sure beats $500 worth of damaged parts to me.

Actually you could take off the primary cover to see if the rotor has the 8 screws (you can't see the heads but I think you can see if the screw holes are present). If you don't, then put the cover on and go. If you do have the screw holes, then you can fix them so they dont come loose.

Or just convert to a SE compensator..:p

It's a Beautiful thing. I believe there is a link in the self Help area that goes into GREAT detail about it.
The kit has a New rotor in it so you kill 2 birds with 1 stone. The price is Right too. (~$200)
