I have been riding since I was 5 (I'm 52 now) I can't remember the last time I actually "missed" a gear, but try to take off in second or third, yep yep yep.
Never forgot I was in nuetral, but hey, it may happen tomorrow. If it don't break anything, just say oops and go on with your day!
