Day 2 3 June, 2012, Sunday
Beautiful weather in Clarksville this morning. (I know I’m a day behind on the post). I woke up earlier than anticipated, but decided to have a more relaxed pace today. While loading the bike I got a message from an HDTimeline member, Tom, aka, MrSleepy. He invited me to breakfast and left me his number. I called him and although he gave excellent directions, I only followed them 99%. I spent 45 minutes riding around looking for him because I thought I had gone for far. In fact, had I gone a quarter of a mile further on my original course I would have found him. Anyway, we finally connected and I met him and his lovely wife and we had breakfast and Tom took me to the “Land Between the Lakes” in western TN. It was an absolute pleasure to meet both of them and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them. Tom headed back and I proceeded up the “Trace” then toward Paducah, KY and points west. It got a lot warmer today than it was yesterday, but I kept the leather jacket on in order to keep from wind or sunburn. I made sure to take in plenty of water to stave off dehydration. Around 1600 it became evident that I was going to get caught in the rain. Somehow I didn’t get soaked and checked into the Hawthorne Motel in Van Buren, MO. I had no sooner unloaded the bike, put the cover on it and the bottom fell out. Perfect (lucky) timing. 295.6 miles today. It looks like I’m at the front end of a major weather front about to move through this area. We will see what tomorrow brings.
