Need ideas on how to spend $500 at local HD dealer

Sit down with a parts catalog and make your list, that $500 will be gone in a jiffy. Any touring in the future, maybe some saddle bags with quick detach hardware, windshield, if you like... I could go on. +1 to Iceman on the manual if you don't have it already. that is the first thing I got for my bike.

Definitely get the manual, then as said earlier, sit down with the catalog and make a list. As you ride you will continually think of little things that will make the bike more comfortable. If you are thinking of doing the stage 1 on the bike, that will help a bunch to spend the $$. Plus, you have a great forum here full of people who will help you spend your money. :lolrolling

Just be patient and over time you will find plenty of things to pick up along the way. I wouldn't go and just buy things to use the card up, I would wait and get things that you see over time and that will make your ride more comfortable.

Thanks for replies so far - Dealer didn't have manual in stock - have to go by and order and prepay - takes about a week
If we don't get another killer dust storm - I am doing this after work (weather said under 112 degrees, so I rode the bike in again - The heat is ok except for the stop lights)

Seems like it's stacked that way. I have a 20 year old pair of boots and she has a nice new pair of HD lady boots...Just ain't right I say!! (she ain't gonna see this is she??)

Robert, take a quick look at the air filter. With that dust storm (or haboob, as it is now called) and if you've ridden much since, bet you have to replace it.

Did the filter on my '07 Superglide today, since I've been on a couple longish rides since the storm. Doesn't take much to clog one and there was a lot of dust left in the air.

btw, you will need a 27 Torx to remove the filter. Something to spend your money on. I use a Craftsman from Sears.

My thought here is that your wife was more concerned about your safety than about money. To me, that is something that I wouldn't mess with. I got a ton of chrome on my cycle. All my wife cares about is if I'm safe.

If it is for your Harley, ask what priority mods are on the horizon...maintenance, comfort, performance or personalization (bling). Usually things go in that order, the first two for long term longevity or rideability; the latter two improving the power and looks.

Mmm, if it's HD that $500 won't go that far, you know that. I would op to spend it on safety gear and hi-vis stuff, let them know you are out there! JMHO

If you don't need anything right now then just hold on to the $500. Don't waste it on the silly coffee mugs and junk. I promise you a couple of months from now you will find something at the dealership that you will need for the bike. If nothing else you can easily spend the money on maintenance. Even if you do the service yourself all the gaskets and fluid can get expensive.

If all they offered you was a gift card you sould have kept the jacket imo However a good 500 investment would be a complete stage one improvment. bikes runs better and cooler
