BluesFan,
As discussed before using a gear lube in the primary is bad. The EP additive will cause the clutch to slip.

Sorry, nothing in any of that about EP being bad for wet clutches. Remember the EP additives binds to the metal component only under high heat. I don't know the exact temps, but my reading leads me to believe that we are talking significantly above normal running condition in VERY localized areas, such as would occur in compensator ramps under sliding motion.

As for the link, it went to another Amsoil paper. No numbers no mention of EP. Just a blanket statement that boils down to Amsoil products being OK. But with an acknowledgment that other compoent needs must also be considered. Given that I have not heard of (from my personal riding buddies) and slippage issues, and known issues w compensators, I'll stick with gear lube until data tells me otherwise.

From the Amsoil paper: (some numbers would be helpful)

The frictional characteristics of all AMSOIL powersports oils
have been fully reviewed using the test methodology set
forth in JASO standard T903:2006 sub-standard T904 and
ISO standard 24254:2007. While clutch slippage and wetclutch
compatibility are major concerns
, it is important to
choose an oil that provides maximum protection and performance
for other lubricated components
as well.

Peace
