This is my little 48, called "Spinner."

She's got Screaming Beagle pipes, a Stage I air filtration system and the proper computer download. I have her trimmed with the "skull" derby and points cover, as well as the gas cap.

When a new rear tire was replaced recently at 10K, I had the stock shock absorbers thrown away and changed out to progresssives.

So many Harleys, so little money. Sigh.

Thank you very much.

Sorry the picture of the shocks looks bad. If you look behind the bike you'll see that I had just gotten back from the tune-up--in the rain. The weather broke for about an hour, and I scrubbed her down, and pushed her into the garage for the final polish.

I wanted to get a quick picture of the shocks to post that day, and I snapped one while the bike was still soaking wet.

The guys at the other forum wanted to see a pic of my new tire, probably to razz me about 'chicken marks,' so I also took a wet one of that, too.

Custom made luggage rack/turn signal location

Here is a project I just completed and I'm a little proud of it...
I like to use my motorcycle for a truck; I'll carry just about anything on it, (but still keep safety in the forefront of my mind). I wanted a larger luggage rack to carry items and just wasn't seeing any thing for sale anywhere. I love to build things so I thought I would give it a try. See attached pictures.

It all started when I wanted a pair of saddlebags but wanted them mounted close to the body of my Sportster. (I love the slim look of the Sportster). So locating them behind the shocks seemed like a good idea.

I designed a luggage rack that would allow me to do that and relocate my turn signals and have a luggage rack large enough to carry my tent, sleeping bag, clothes, etc when I go on long rides. And this is what I came up with.

The sides brackets are 1/8” metal that I cut out using a jig saw. The rack I wanted to make out of metal square tubing but I’ll have to borrow/buy a mig welder to do that. In the meantime I made it out of wood…1/2” pieces of mahogany glued and screwed together (20" X 9 1/2") and then painted it all black.
The wooden rack is very strong and may suffice for me. It will at least allow me to see how I like it and what changes I may want to make before welding a metal one together. I would also like to weld some square metal tubes vertically towards the front of the rack to receive a removable padded back rest for me when the load is not supporting my back.
