Posted a few pics to an album on my profile from various spots throughout this trip. Just a few of the nearly 400 pictures that I ended up taking.
Favorites were:
Rte. 66 down near Needles, Ca and the old mining town of Oatman, AZ.
Red Rock Canyon just west of Vegas
Valley of Fire State park near Overton, NV
Grand Canyon (Was very cold at 18 degrees)
Hoover Dam (Incredible how low the water levels have fallen)
Vegas at night
Night temps were cold (below freezing) with a front that came through the first 2 days of the trip, highs only reached 35-40. Next 4 days were 50-65 during the day.
I brought plenty of warm clothes and layered up with waffle/thermal shirts and my leather, two pairs of gloves and two long johns under my jeans. Full face helmet as well on the real cold mornings and my half helmet in the mid day and afternoon. Only my fingers got occasionally cold. A small pair of Hot Hands hand warmers helped a bit. Being a smoker, i would rest my gloves near the cylinder bases on the primary side when i stopped and it would help take the chill out of my digits when i put them back on.
Riding the old "Mother Road" was a bucket list item for me, but I have a feeling this is going to be a yearly trip that i'll plan now either in Mar-Apr or around Sept when the temps are in the 80-85 range. I'll pass on the 110+ degree times of the year, thank you
If anyone has any questions about the trip, let me know...........but I had a blast getting away from the bitter cold of Connecticut for a week
