I have never had a problem and it won't mess up paint if you happen to get some on it. I've seen the guys at the auto detail shop use it on $500,000 Ferraris all the time with no problem

It seems like the ideal solution to removing the road tar.

Try Avon's Skin So Soft Bath Oil. It works wonders, specifically on road tar. It is non-abrasive, won't hurt chrome/paint/plastic, and will literally eat right through the road tar. I've used this stuff for years to get my truck clean for truck shows and it really works well.

I might try the avon trick and then remove any streak of finger prints with the zep.
