I've been out of the parts business for a while.but this is the way it used to be. Bike batteries that we sold were "dry". When a customer bought one we would add the acid to it which would activate it somewhat, but we either trickle charged it for them or made it clear to them that they trickle charge it before using. They were kept dry, because it gave them longer shelf life. Once filled with acid the timeline for their life expectancy starts then. Also as mentioned earlier a weak battery will tax your charging system. Dont know if this is true, but some battery reps claimed that if you put a 50% charged battery in, it will not ever reach much more capacity than that. Just the way it used to be...a long time ago...in a galaxy far far away.
