Update:
I got the eBay speedo head installed. It looks and works great. I can barely see the “fogginess” that Seller mentioned. I’m happy.
And now I have a working trip odometer!
After I was sure the eBay unit was working, I pried open my original speedometer. I didn’t see anything obvious wrong at first glance. The face plate was not warped. I removed the trip odometer wheels, and maybe discovered how to fix that. But I thought it best to just use CRC Electronic spray to rinse out the speed wheel area.
I applied a little grease to the (plastic) gears that I could see, and reassembled it. Someday, maybe I’ll install it in my bike to see if it’s fixed. Someday.
I ordered a Drag Specialties speedo drive unit and cable while they are still available, even though the ones on my bike are still working.
