I remember one time I was spraying a carb with carb cleaner and then the engine started to kock. I thought that I had trashed the engine. Turns out that a piece of carbon broke off and was bouncing around in the combustion chamber. I few hard pedal to the metal applications blew the piece of junk out.

The key here is to keep the RPM up and use a fine mist, just enough to not stall the motor, yes carbon build up can cause hot spots across the tops of the pistons and yes it can cause a mis fire, this is old school but still works today on any internal combustion engine, Tried and trued by myself and many others still in the field:s
