Too Tight?

Second question is the service manual states 4 qts of engine oil and I put a little over 3 ½. I had a Sportster about 3 years ago and if I put the amount of oil in that the dealer told me to it would blow out the air cleaner. So I put about a ½ quart less and that seemed to work. Is this a problem?

They will usually never take the full 4 qts on a change because there is always about 1/2 qt left in the oil galleries in the engine. Over filling the oil will cause it to blow out the air cleaner at highway speeds.
I always add 3 qts and heat it up to verify the level on the stick and top off as needed.
