I've got a 1989 FXRS - the factory manual says the transmission should take 1 pint but yet when I drained it it took more than a pint just to get it to
show on the dipstick, so I'm not sure what to go by - the pint or the dipstick? It would take at least a couple more oz.'s to show full on the dipstick.

Remember that you are supposed to check fluid levels when it is hot, and then either propped straight up, or on stand as your manual will dictate. One other issue I had with my ultra, the prior owner had it lowered 1" in the rear, and that accounted for some of the discrepancy I was having when I went to fill my tranny, engine oil, and my primary was so close, that I just dumped it all in.
