Well, I've only had a bike for about 8 months. so still learning, sure did take quite a while to get to the bottom of this thread, but well worth it, a lot of different opinions and experiences with a number of products. I did buy 1 quart of the HD formulate just to replenish what spilled out when I opened my first derby cover and didnt read the instructions that the bike should not be leaning. I will figure out at some point in time, what I might try when I get to the fluid changing experience.

My question now has nothing to do with bikes, I need to add GL-4 or GL-5 rated gear oil to my troy-built super-bronco 6HP garden tiller, so I was wondering, since I had the HD formulate if this is rated at GL 4 or 5, so I won't have to go out and get a special bottle just for the ounce or so that I need. The bottle makes no mention of its oil rating.

Harley keeps it's specs on the products a big dark secret and nobody ever knew what they are. If you were talking Mobil 1 or spectro , then you could probably use it but as far as the HD oil, I would take a guess that it is somewhere lower than GL4 even thou they say to use it in a 6 speed which I wouldn't.

If im not mistaken the formula+ is a GL1 and wouldnt be good at all in a Troy Built tiller. That gear box is going through some real hard stresses and it needs real good gear oil in it. Try some Amsoil SV 75/140 or Mobil 1 75/140 in that tiller and in your scoot trany as well, You will love it. Never mind on your scoot I just realized you ride a sporty and the gear oil might not be good for the wet clutch.

Hi All
I ordered a case of Spectro 75/140 for 6 speeds as I have figured it is the most popular in this site and i live in Venezuela and it is hot , also i ordered a case of harley Primary oil but the guy couldn't find the spectro and he came up with the harley primary / transmission formula plus oil , what gives , is this stuff good for the tranny as well??
Kinda stuck on spectro but also kinda far away from it until the next order!

thanks in advance for any advice
regards
Darren

The Formula+ will work but not as well as the Spectro Platinum will. Different GL ratings between the two.

I plan on being in the Orlando & Sebring area the 3rd week of January & am looking for a place where I can purchase either the spectro heavy duty 6 speed or the redline with shockproof

Can that Spectro 6 speed go in a five speed?

I have a dealer for it about ten miles from me.:D

It can be used in either. It's a GL5 and they make one for the 5 speeds also. Check out the oil section in the self help area.

I use Spectro 6.

They make a Spectro for the 5-speed trans. No need to use the Spectro 6 in the 5-speed.
