Re: What Grits Are
Grits are good, with enough salt, pepper, and butter mixed in to give 'em a little flavor.
My favorite is menudo - Mexican tripe soup -tripe, hominy, onion, hot pepper, a little sage in a spicy soup. One bowl of that, you can ride ALL day. It is touted as a hangover cure. I can't vouch for that; I haven't had a hangover in 25 years, but I ride the 40 miles to Yuba City most Sundays to get a big bowl of it. It's 20 degrees (above zero) here this morning, darn cold for 2300 feet in the Sierras, so I wussed out for the breakfast ride - will take the car - but it will warm up enough to get in a ride this afternoon. I need a shirt thas says "Will ride for food" :s:s:s
Grits are Corn Kernels soaked in a mixture of Water, Lye and Salt .. this cures and expands them into what is known as Hominy .. Hominy itself is not bad eating for breakfast .. Grits are Ground Hominy .. That simple .. Raised in the swamps of Florida used to make our own ... Cheese Grits and Fried Catfish are my favorite way ...
