always 93 octane try to stay with shell just got back off a road trip couldnt believe my eyes little station outside of Bristle Tn. had 108 octane at 7.50 a gal havent seen that in years except at the drag strip

I always use the 93 octane, but i try to go to a station where each grade has it's own nozzle. I hate going to a place where one nozzle for all grades. That means the first gallon or so will most likely be 87 octane. For a car or truck it won't make a difference but for a bike it will.

In actuality it's not even 1/2 of a gallon (it's .367) in a 10 foot hose and that is ONLY if the system didn't have a drain back valve in it which drains the fuel from the last customer which most do have.
Ever pull into a pump with one hose and before doing anything, pull the nozzle trigger and see for yourself that only a few drops drain out, not anything of any volume at all.:s

I use the highest octane I can find (108!! NOT around here) which is usually 93. Try to stick with Exxon or Shell. I add about 2oz. of Marvel's in each tank.

TQ

I always run premium in my sporty but was wondering if maybe I should add a fuel additive since it is carbed and if so, how often and how much?

Generally i use 91 octane at a station only 1 mile from home,as i am usually passing by on way home so i fill it up.otherwise i usually fill up at local wal-mart and they have 93 octane.when out on the road with the guys i ride with we usually fill up at bp or shell as thats all they will use.
Today i ran about 120 miles of mixed riding on 2 lanes and interstate, ran at 50-60mph on 2 lanes and at 70mph with cruise on out on the interstate with the 93 octane wal-mart gas and it gave 44mpg. As a rule im not usually fussy about gas as long as it is 91 or better.did use some 87 octane last summer when i was out and i lost 10mpg.whats you guys experience with low octane.

The octane grades in my area are 87, 89 and 91. My neighbor and I bought our 09 Roadglides a few days apart and put in a few tankfuls of 91 before and after we did the Stage 1 upgrade. My neighbor then installed a big bore kit and got back his "old" pistons, which were only about 2 months old. The tops of the pistons had quite a lot of unburned gas residue. I didn't see much point in using 91 octane if it wasn't going to completely burn so I switched to 89 octane and the bike seems to run just fine - No pinging and mileage in the low 40's.

92 or 93 should be OK but I like to use the 93 which is as high as we get here, especially in the hot weather.

I run 93 most of the time but I work in Aviation so I will also run 100LL in it which I dont really see a big differnce but man it makes the exhaust smell so good!!!
