The higher octane really does nothing for the motor but it can damage the valves if run in excess. The best octane for your motor is one that will eliminate any pinging but I run 93 in any event.

Octane ratings aren't what they use to be years back like when Sunoco had 103.

The highest we can get here on the central coast of California is 91 octane. I'm going through several states to and from Sturgis next month and I'm wondering whether I should try some 93 octane or just stick with the 91. (if I can find it.)

93 octane because it runs cooler and the manual calls for it...the 96CID engines need all the cooling they can get...got a PCV on the way...not sure what it will do but its only $300 bucks....:rider

93 octane from the local BP in town and have never had an issue with either bike.
