HOG membership.....???

It can be a lot of fun, and very informative. If you are a new rider -- they help with safety and riding seminars (free). You can get more riding buddies by participating in the group rides. Very friendly folks, and always happy to talk motorcycle!

I do the fly/ride or just rent bikes a couple of times a year and the discount for that makes it worth while, not to mention the roadside assistance.

thanks for all the insight ......... but i have a sportster with a 2.5 gallon tank.. how does that go over when every 70 miles i need gas..... sorry for all the newbie questions but....ya gotta learn by asking i guess...

My experience is that it isn't a problem. The road captain or ride coordinator should plan the stops so that they don't run anyone out gas, or have new riders put into bad situations where they are forced to ride above their comfort level. Our chapter is active, we donate a lot of money to good causes and put on some first rate parties! :D

I received my membership when I bought my bike last year. I didn't know that anyone got a parts discount? I've bought parts at the local dealer and they never mentioned it. Is it something I should be asking about?

I have no interest in group rides. But I thought I'd keep it so I could get the roadside assistance. Don't you have to be a member to get it?

Does it help with insurance?

I have been considering HOG membership also, and based on SledDogs post I would say, like any "club" there are highs and lows based purely on individual experiences. I would join, purely on the merits that riding with fellow enthusiasts is a very good thing. Solo and Co-rider stuff is always good, but the change in venue is something to be experienced not just read about. The only thing stopping me from joining is available free time...but as with all things, anything worthwhile should be worked in rather than finding out through others what you are missing.

HOG membership works for me,the HOG rallies here are worth the fees on thier own.Always top bands and comps like chapter challenge. Also, youre with a few thousand other Harley owners, and we all know how good that is!

I would check out the discount thing with the dealer. Not all dealers give the discount but asking can't hurt.

You need to be a national member to get the HOG roadside assistance.
Some insurance companies provide roadside assistance with the policy. I currently insure with Progressive and have the roadside assistance.

Not sure about any insurance discounts.

I didn't renew my HOG membership because I already have roadside assistance through AAA and Progressive Insurance. I did consider the membership because of the Fly & Ride program but after I priced out an Ultra through the Fly & Ride program versus a regular rental from another Harley dealer who wasn't Fly & Ride, the prices were basically the same. In other words, absolutely no savings what so ever for being a HOG member. And before I get shot down by those who have benefitted from the Fly & Ride program, I was specifically referring to a couple of dealers back east where I was hoping to rent and ride the Smoky Mountains.
