SE Pro Super Tuner + Smart Tune Software

Hey aren't the 2010 and newer bikes using wide band O2 sensors? Caues I believe he has a 2010 model :cheers

No not wide band. I believe they are "heated" narrow band sensors. The heated version is needed because they are now mounted further downstream of the header pipe.

well at any rate, it sounds to me that the smart tune is kind of a "street" dyno method. In the manual for the old version tuner it says to change all the cells in the AFR table to 13.1 then using a AFR reader adjust the VE to accomplish 13.1 in all conditions and then adjust the AFR table to desired AFR.
It sounds to me that with the smart tune you would be doing the same thing in reverse, just using the O2 sensors instead of an AFR meter? Correct? :newsmile082:

I guess what I'm saying is what difference would it make if you callibrate to 14.6 or 13.1 as the computer will use the VE tables for any thing in open loop anyway and not the O2 sensors to calculate fuel delivery. :newsmile082:

a smart tune flash sets most of the AFR to 14.6 to get a proper VE.

I am very curious to know exactly how may cells and which one are flipped to 14.6 during smart tune.
I sure would not want to Smart Tune my engine while under WOT @ an A/F ratio of 14.6.

Does it show in the map table as to exactly which cells are fixed at 14.6 during a Smart Tune.?

Glad this thread lives on and some great conversation. Just getting back to riding and reading after some crazy work hours for the past 3 months.

Ride safe and have fun!

flash your map to the VCI with 'smart tune' selected. then after all steps are complete download the VCI map and you will see which cells are are at 14.6.

I have attached the AFR which shows which are changed for the smart tune data

So that's what Smart Tune is all about. That just about covers it all. Smart Tune came out the year after I purchased my SEST. That is a monumental break-through if it truly works and would have saved me a bunch of time & grief. Thanks for the info.

Hoople, If you were to get hold of the newest software I wonder if your current VCI would accept instructions from it. I am guessing only the software was changed. You could then download the VCI saved file and do a smart tune data run and see where you are at.

That's a Great question. I recently acquired a copy of the 2010 SEST software which does have Smart Tune in it.

It probably is a software feature and just may work with my early level (2009) Dongle. The thing is the bike is running just so good at the moment, I don't think it would improve the performance any...:)

But if I ever make another engine mod which results in a change to the VE tables, I will absolutely give Smart Tune a try. Doing it with an exhaust analyzer is accurate but it's just so tedious with so many time trials.
Tks for the info.

Hoople: Sounds like your set with the program disk, but I have a copy that you can use to load onto your PC if needed. I also have the training CD if you want that as well. Let me know, I can drop it in the mail. Keep it as long as you need.

Thanks
