I just put in Spectro Platinum. I had switched from Syn3 to Mobil 1 75/140 about 1000 miles ago. The tranny seemed to run a little quiter on the Mobil 1 than it did on Syn3, but sometimes seemed like it wasn't shifting quite right at times. I also found it difficult to see the Mobil 1 on the dipstick, and would smell the gear lube while riding.

What surprised me most however was the amount of metal on the drain plug when I drained out the Mobil 1. It seemed to have substantially more metal on the magnet than was on there when I drained out the Syn3.

I'm looking forward to see how "Molly" runs with the Spectro.

Just went from Syn3 to Spectro Platinum GL1. Night and day difference. Upshifting meshes much better and clunking greatly reduced. Bye-bye Syn3, forever.

Enjoy,
Rich P

going to spectro platinum heavy duty 6 speed transmission oil sae 75w140 in both my 98 flsts and my 2005 flhtci trans.spectro platinum heavy duty chaincase oil sae 85w in the primary, and mobil v twin 20-50 in engines

i contacted spectro on 12/23/09 and the vice president of sales rollin karoll from brookfield,ct. 1-800-243-8645 emailed me back and said i could use either the platinum heavy duty 75w140 or the 6 speed gear oil. he further stated he used the 6 speed gear oil in both his bikes.an 87 and 91 fxsts and is very happy with it's performance.he said i could use their synthetic 20w50 hd motor oil in the trans and that it exceeds hd syn-3 but he would recommend using the gear oil."it just makes no sense using motor oil in a transmission application." i choose to use the 6 speed because my 4th gear has always had a different sound to it and the 6 speed oil is suppose to help quiet down trans noise.it was a $1.00 a bottle difference and i figure on running it 10,000 miles between changes for now but results will tell. Motorcycle Parts, Discount Motorcycle Tires, Motorcycle Gear, Motorcycle Accessories | Jake Wilson had the 6 speed for $16.99 and the chaincase oil for $7.99 a quart with free ground shipping.Motocross apparel, mx gear, motocross boots, motorcycle helmets at Bobscycle.com also has it reasonable but did charge for shipping if under $150.00 per order. thanks for the info on mischlers in beaver dam,i am in janesville not too far away..

I use the syn gear oil Mobil 1 75w/90. Transmissions have gears and not crankshafts. They are completely different needs.

Let's see what transmission lube is being used.

Feel free to give your comments on it also.

I use Spectro 6 Speed trans oil 75/140 which I consider is the best available but started using it after this poll was made so it isn't included as a choice.

I used Amsoil 20/50 for the last 2500 miles however after reading the information in the forum I think that I will change is shortly to M1 75/90 or the 75/140.

The information here in the forum is too good not to take into advise.

Thanks,
