What Brand Bike Did You Ride Prior to HD?

I have had 2 street bikes prior to my new UC, a 1978 KZ650 when i was 19 and a 1977 KZ 650 that I still own and drive often. My wife and I restored it about 5 years ago.

had 35 bikes of every type, trials bikes to ctotch rockets, before joining the harley crowd. 3 harley since then. very different, more confident riding machine, than others before them.

Had a Honda 350 way back in the 70's for about 4 years.

Loved it at the time, but would never go back from Harleys now.

Still have it. 1976 Kawasaki KZ900 Z1. Fastest production bike of the seventies. 27th birthday present to myself. Tell people if I had that bike at 18, I seriously doubt I'd be typing this right now. I've done some stupid stuff on that bike.

2002 Honda Shadow 750. A great starter bike, but now that I have a Harley, I'm hooked. I doubt I ever own a different kind of bike.

What were you guys riding prior to your move to HD and why did you switch to HD?
I was riding a Yamaha V-star prior to getting my FXD. Why did I switch? I wanted a bike that was fuel injected, with cast wheels rather than spokes, that would be better suited for very long rides. I was considering several models from several brands, and the best deal I was able to get was on a leftover new 2009 FXD. Had a local Honda dealer given me the price I wanted before the H-D dealer agreed to my asking price on the FXD, I'd be riding a 2010 Sabre right now rather than my 2009 FXD.

Had several Yamahas - Enduro, XT550, XT600, a Suzuki GSX1100, a Vespa Piaggio 2-stroke 150cc (cool bike, imo). Got my '88 XL 883-1200, and then also my current '91 FLTC-FLHR.
Owning a Harley was always on top of my list, but over here they have always been ridiculously expensive (also making them more attractive in a way).
Example - a new, fully rigged 2011 FLHxxx will set you back $60k! Even my old sled is worth roughly the same as a new one over there - close to $20k

Had a Honda 450CL back in 1973. Put some TT pipes on her, loved the sound. Paid 1,200 off the showroom floor. Let my son and a friend tear her apart, now in seems people are looking for this bikes to build cafe racers, man was I stupid.
