Did you buy the bike new? It would be a good idea to rea the owner's manuel if you have one. It is very informative and covers all the basics on the bike.

I just got my first harley and i see people saying about crank case, primary and trans or gear? where are all these at. I don't know alot about bikes. what is considered all 3 holes? I do know where the oil tank is.

Being that your bike isnt new I'm guessing you dont have an owners manual,check the download section of the forumhttp://www.hdtimeline.com/downloads.php . The 3 hole eveyone refers to are engine oil,primary oil and transmission oil. I hope this helps:)

The sportsters have 2 holes, engine oil and a shared trans and primary oil. I would suggest getting the manual if you are doing any work on the bike.

Since my first service in 2004, I've used

Engine = M-1 V-Twin 20/50
Primary = M-1 V-Twin 10/40
Tranny = M-1 75/90 gear oil

Maybe it's just me but I can not phathom running motor oil in a standard transmission. It's a gear box. A gear box needs gear oil.

Just my $0.02

razor how many miles you got on your wideglide?just wondering how that m1 10w-40 is working out for you in the primary i use M1 20w-50 in the engine and M1 75w-140 in the tranny and HD formula+ in the primary

hi all...

i cant find amsoil in my city. but theres mobil1 vtwin and redline v twin.
which one of those 2 is the best? please gimme some insights...

place where i live is very humid and temp ranges between 25c(77f)-40c(100f), heavy traffic.

currently the original hd oil in all 3 holes. after reading some reviews, i got interested into trying other brands.

also, my dad's got this '00 roadking but seldomly rides. what i do is only take it for 30min ride once a week. It's got all hd oil. wonder if can use shell oil 15w50, since it's not ridden that much.

thanks!

Still using Syn 3 as of today, as I just changed the oil 2 weeks ago, but I am switching to Mobile 1 after reading the "oil discussions".

New to Harley. Plan on using Mobil 1 products: 20W-50 in motor and 10W-40 in Primary.
I'll most likey have to use a different brand in the tranny since I haven't found anyone that carries the gear oil. Possibly Castrol syn or Amsoil.
