Motorcycle Adventure, Day 10
I didn’t make note of what time I left Dolores, CO this morning, but the sun was up and it was cold. I closed the zippers on the leather jacket, put on a long sleeve t shirt, chaps and heavy gloves. I got to the four corners at 0835 and it is closed for construction. Ain’t that a nice surprise. A couple of other bikes showed up and they were thrilled too. I backtracked a couple of miles and entered Utah on Hwy 162. That took me through Monument Valley. That will knock your eyes out too. I don’t know what map I was looking at, but I thought I was close to the Grand Canyon, wrong. It was an all day evolution getting there, but the view is indescribable as many of you know. I went in the north rim because I heard it was less crowded. It wasn’t bad, but I don’t like crowds so I took some pictures and I was ready to go in pursuit of a room. The closest thing to civilization was Kanab, Utah. There is a baseball tournament going on and finding a room was a severe problem. One little dump wanted $119. I would have slept on the side of the road first. Finally I found a room at the Treasure Trail Motel, $50, I could handle that. Unless I’ve read my map wrong again, I’m going through the Zion National Park in the morning then make my way to Ely, Nevada so I can ride the Loneliest Road in America bright and early the next day. That should put me in California, which is where I wanted to go. We shall see!
