Motorcycle Adventure To California

Boy .. these pics and the running commentary are great. Thanks for
taking the time to post. Not sure how I'll live up to the standard on
my little trip from Nebraska to Miami and Key West in another week.

I hope you bring all us along with you.

My husband and I are having a ball this year reading the posts of you folks on your road trips. Jack, it was so wonderful to go with you guys! Mike, we're watching you now! Pru, we come in every night looking so forward to reading your eloquent posts and seeing the fabulous photos. One day soon, we hope to get to do that kind of trip. As for everyone else who takes us along, whether it's a short on long trip, we appreciate you so much for sharing like these have before you. We're learning a lot. We will do the same when we go on a big 'un. Everyone, ride safe and smart.

Motorcycle Adventure, Day 17

Any reservations I had about stopping for the day earlier than usual were literally put to rest in Fort Bragg, California. I was awoken at 0655 by people loading their vehicles outside my room. This was the best nights rest I have had on this trip. The sun was fully up and there was not a cloud in the blue sky. It was chilly, but I brought the proper gear for that. I headed north at 0900. It took two hours to get to Leggett, CA. It is only 48 miles but the scenery made me stop a few times for pictures and the last 22 miles were like riding the “Tail of the Dragon” twice. At 1140 I reached Garberville and had only ridden 70 miles. I hooked a left to go to Shelter Cove, CA. That was like riding the “Dragon” twice more. I headed back to Garberville, to try and make some northward progress, so I had to ride the “Dragon” road twice more. By the time I hit 101 and went 65 mph, I felt like I was flying. I got on the Avenue of the Giants and saw the majestic trees I had come to look at. They are unlike anything I have ever seen and well worth the trip. The majority of the day I was in lower gears navigating the grades and curves. By the time I quit for the day, I had only ridden 215.2 miles. It was the hardest miles I have ever ridden and I finally stopped in Arcata, CA. It is a small town a few miles north of Eureka, CA. My mission is accomplished as I made it to California, rode the coast highway and laid eyes on the giant redwood trees. From here on out, it will be icing on the cake. I will go through the Redwood National Park tomorrow, then make a direct run to the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. At this point I am looking forward to getting on I-5 and setting the cruise control for Portland, Oregon. I want to visit Chopper in Pocatello, ID but I will plot that course at some point in the near future. Pictures to follow.
