I have Syn 3 in all the holes of my '04 Softail Deuce (31K miles), '07 Ultra Classic (18K miles) and the brides '04 Low Rider (3K miles). Being new to this forum, I am amazed at the knowledge base that is available. I have learned more about motorcycle maintenance in the past two weeks than the previous 41 years of riding. It appears from all indications Syn 3 is mediocre at best. I didn’t know there was a connection to Chavez either. Although all three bikes have always run like Swiss watches, the shifting on the Geezer Glide is definitely not as smooth as the other two. The consensus seems to be Spectro Platinum, so I will give that a shot as soon as I can get my hands on some. Thanks for all the good scoop!

You'll see a noted difference when you remove the Syn3 and add the Spectro in the shifting of the bike.

OK, I've got a "dumb" question. I was at the local parts store over the weekend, and they stock some cycle products. They had Mobil 1 75/90 gear oil which says it's for automobile use. Is this the same product mentioned in this thread, or is there a motorcycle specific gear lube?

It's not labeled for motorcycle use but it should say synthetic on it.

The Spectro platinum is even better yet.

Thanks Glider!

I've been looking for the Spectro, but no one carries it around here, and I wanted to service my bike before this weekend. I may try and order it online and wait a little while longer on the service. It's not quite to my normal service interval, but it's been pretty hot and dusty around here. Got home yesterday after sitting in a big traffic backup in 100 temps, and the oil temp was up to 265.

Based on this thread I ordered two quarts of Spectro six-speed from Bob's Cycle Supply. It arrived within a couple of days and I put it in the Geezer Glide on August 1. I have only ridden the bike three times since then and only relatively short distances. It seems like it is shifting better each time I ride it. Is this psychological or is it making a distinctive click instead of a loud clunk when shifting. Does it get better with mileage? So far, so good! Thanks for all the good scoop.

It took a few hundred miles on mine before I noticed a signifigant improvement in fifth gear, but the click instead of clunk when shifting came right away.
