Bought my brothers 2001 Dyna in February , had it shipped out from Las Vegas (Haul Bikes - great company), when it arrived I couldn't wait to crank it up and feel the wind again after 25 years, got to the end of the block and ran out of gas (thanks bro for riding it until it was empty, before shipping it).
After MSF course, insurance, title, inspection, liscense, and practice; rode it to work first time (down the HOV), the bike died on me. I thought [darn] I'm going to have to push it off the HOV to an exit, first I went through what could be wrong (after trying and trying to crank it). Out of the corner of my eye I saw the gas gauge was on empty (what a dummy), switched to reserve, after about 4 revolutions it fired right up.
The guys at work, all bikers in my group who insist on christianing newbies with an "official" road name named me Gas Gauge. Since it was humbling and a good lesson I accepted it, not that I had a choice.
End of story, after 3 months couldn't resist a fantastic deal on a 2006 EGC (FI), consequences are much greater for running out now, but it was nice to relearn an old lesson the hard way!
